OPHTHALMOLOGICAL SCREENING:
RETINA IMAGING

Retinal conditions are common and a leading cause of vision loss. These can include diabetic retinopathy, Macular degeneration, and retinal dystrophy. Modern assessment of retinal status includes the use of wide-field imaging and 3D Retinal assessment (OCT).

These tests are not freely available to all optometrists and general practitioners and to improve their service to the patient we are offering a low-cost service where the retina can be imaged and a formal report including pictures sent to the referring practitioner.

The tests will be conducted by an ophthalmic technician, but an Ophthalmologist will review the images and provide feedback and advice if needed in a formal report to the practitioner.

The patient will have the option to rather book a full consultation with an ophthalmologist if they prefer this over the screening tests.

The service will include:

  • Ultra-wide field fundus photo (200°)
  • Macula OCT
  • Auto-fluorescent imaging of the retina in selected cases

If a serious retina problem is discovered the patient will be referred to the ophthalmologist of their choice.
