Corneal conditions can cause marked visual acuity impairment despite often being subtle and not clinically easily appreciable. The cornea can be imaged in 3D using tomography and OCT.
We offer a low-cost corneal imaging service to optometrists in our region where we would like to assist them by making available corneal imaging equipment.
A technician will perform corneal imaging and an Ophthalmologist will review the images and will provide a report to the optometrist.
Corneal imaging protocol:
- Corneal Tomography (Galilei system)
- OCT cornea for selected cases
This service is aimed at Optometrists who are concerned about a patient’s suboptimal refraction end point where corneal pathology is suspected.
Indicators of keratoconus where topography and tomography should be done include:
- Vision not correcting to 6/6
- Myopic shift
- High astigmatism
- Asymmetrical astigmatism
- Myopic astigmatism
- Scissoring reflex
- Progression from soft to toric to rigid contact lenses
- Eye rubbing
- Allergies associated with poor vision
